Rockdale County Board Of Commissioners Town Hall
The town hall meeting focused on educating citizens about the proposed Flexible Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST). Key topics included an explanation of how FLOST converts a countywide sales tax into property tax relief, the mechanics of how it would appear on the ballot, and estimates regarding potential millage rate reductions. The presentation also addressed concerns from the public regarding the tax's impact on renters, the potential for sales tax to disadvantage lower-income residents, and the rationale behind increasing the total sales tax rate. Officials clarified that the funds collected are strictly designated for ad valorem tax relief and not for general maintenance or operational expenses.
