Town of Normal Town Council Meeting
The town council heard several public comments regarding a proposed ordinance involving an updated code of conduct for Uptown Station. Speakers, including representatives from local homelessness advocacy organizations, community members, and individuals with lived experience, urged the council to delay the vote on the code of conduct. Concerns raised centered on the potential for the ordinance to criminalize or displace unhoused residents, the lack of collaboration with local social service agencies, and the broader need for effective, humane solutions to homelessness in the community rather than punitive measures. Additionally, a speaker questioned the economic strategy behind current and future developments in Uptown.
